Original b/w photograph of Enzo Ferrari posing with Giulio Masetti in an Alfa Romeo RLTF, Enzo Ferrari started his third year as Alfa Romeo chief works driver in 1923. At the age of just 25, he had already succeeded in winning numerous victories for Alfa Romeo, making a name for himself in motor racing, but Enzo Ferrari's start to the 1923 racing season did not go smoothly: he crashed his Alfa Romeo RLTF on the second lap of the Targa Florio, but suffered no injuries. The photo was taken during Giulio Masetti's first test drives for the 1923 Targa Florio; Masetti switched to Alfa Romeo that year. Due to his numerous previous successes, including the 1922 Targa Florio race record in a Mercedes 115 hp Grand Prix racing car and the Targa Florio victory in 1921, Alfa Romeo placed a lot of faith in Masetti and allowed him to make his debut in one of the most important races of the 1923 season, the Targa Florio. After Masetti had won the Targa Florio in each of the two previous years, it was only enough for 4th place in 1923. The recording is characterized by numerous special features, such as the two flat fenders on the Alfa Romeo RLTF, which were later removed for the Targa Florio, another unusual feature is Enzo Ferrari, who claims the passenger seat for himself here, this is probably due to the fact that Enzo Ferrari supervised Masetti's first test drives as chief works driver. Giulio Masetti tragically died in an accident just 3 years later. It can be assumed that this recording is an unpublished one-off, which makes it a unique historical snapshot. The photograph is sharp and stamped on the back "Prof. Gelfo Guido", the paper is slightly wavy otherwise the photograph is in a great condition considering its age of more than 100 years, 10x17,5cm
